From mitigation to recovery
GEM strives to develop trustworthy hazard and risk evaluations, vital for organizing rescue and humanitarian activities when an earthquake occurs. GEM works to ensure that damage and loss assessments before and after an earthquake are accurate in order for governments to respond quickly in areas where assistance is most needed, and in order for communities to ‘build back better’.

To achieve this, GEM shares reliable open data on earthquake risk information in support of sound disaster-risk-reduction and decision-making processes.
GEM is the only non-profit organization in the world that offers a complete range of high quality services in seismic risk assessment. Contact us for more details.
To sustain our efforts, GEM has trained people from more than 100 countries advancing earthquake science & engineering, and knowledge-sharing initiatives putting local experts at the forefront of regional and national initiatives in seismic hazard and risk assessments.
GEM works in the Americas, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia-Pacific sharing knowledge, data and best practices to build capacity and bring together international and local experts.
GEM implements regional, national and local hazard and risk assessment projects covering risk scenario development, data collection and risk reductions initiatives.
